HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 6 (acn) Panamanian President Martin Torrijos Espino
concluded a three-day official visit to Cuba that contributed to the
strengthening of friendship ties and cooperation between the two
countries.
The Panamanian leader was seen off at the Jose Marti International
airport in Havana by Cuban First VP Jose Ramon Machado Ventura and by
Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque.
During the last day of his visit on Monday, Torrijos held official talks
with his Cuban counterpart Raul Castro and received the Jose Marti
Order, the highest honor granted by the Cuban Council of State.
Also on Monday, he unveiled a monument built to pay homage to his late
father, Omar Torrijos, and laid a floral wreath at the monument of Cuban
National Hero Jose Marti at the Revolution Square in Havana.
The Panamanian delegation was comprised of First Lady Vivian Fernandez
de Torrijos; First VP and Foreign Minister Samuel Lewis Navarro; the
President of the Panamanian National Assembly, Raul Rodriguez; and
Gisela Alvarez de Porras, Minister of Commerce and Industries.
This was Torrijos’s sixth visit to Cuba. The most recent one was on
April 30, 2008, on the occasion of the First Cuba-Panama
Intergovernmental Joint Commission.
