Cuban Sugar Ship Terminal Surpasses Planned Uploads for Export

LAS TUNAS, Cuba, April 23 (acn) Carúpano raw sugar upload port has exported 58,400 tons so far this year, a 20 percent more than what was planned for the period.

The facility, located 60 kilometers north of this city, started its operations when it was inaugurated by Cuban Leader Fidel Castro in January 1978, and has proven its efficiency ever since in its work.

During the current sugar harvest workers at the port have uploaded 26 ships with sugar produced in eastern Granma, Holguin and Las Tunas provinces, and have saved over 21,000 dollars for fast release of ships.

Despite having suffered from the battering of Hurricane Ike in September 2008, the port´s revenue this year has surpassed the 1,570,000 dollars, reports the province´s newspaper “26” in its website.
