Cuban ophthalmologists have operated at 93 thousand Ecuadorian

Cuban Specialists in ophthalmology of the Mission Milagro operated, in three and a half years, to 93 thousand Ecuadorian patients in three clinics that maintains the Island in the South American nation.

In declarations to Latin Press, Hugo Almeida, national coordinator of the Cuban mission, explained that the first clinic with personal and equipment sent by its country was inaugurated in May, 2006 in Latacunga, county of Cotopax.

In July of that year the second opened up, inBallenita, county of Santa Elena; and the third, in July, 2007 in Machala, county of El Oro.

He said that before working those centers, in October, 2005 a group of specialists of the Island arrived to the county Emeralda, border with Colombia, and they sent to near four thousand patient-companions to Havana, where were carried out two thousand 500 surgical interventions.

He specified that the mission has in Ecuador 55 collaborators, of which 10 are oculists or specialists in integral general medicine, and the rest engineers in electro-medicine and graduates in infirmary.
