Cuba and Ecuador Sign Nine New Agreements

HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 9 (acn) Cuban President Raul Castro and his Ecuadorian counterpart Rafael Correa on Thursday presided over the signing of nine bilateral agreements that will contribute to strengthening the existing friendship and cooperation relations between Cuba and Ecuador.

The new accords signed on Thursday will serve to increase bilateral cooperation in the sectors of health, education, sports, energy, science and technology, and foreign relations.

After the ceremony, held at the Palace of the Revolution in Havana, both sides exchanged greetings and reiterated their interest in implementing the agreements.

Prior to the ceremony, Correa and his accompanying delegation were officially welcomed at the Palace of the Revolution.

Correa paid tribute to Cuban National Hero Jose Marti at the Revolution Square and also placed a floral wreath at a monument of Ecuadorian renowned politician and military leader Eloy Alfaro in the Cuban capital.

He also presided over – along with Cuban President Raul Castro - a rally that marked the 50th anniversary of the victorious entrance in Havana by Fidel Castro and the Rebel Army back in 1959.
