Raul Castro Meets with UNESCO General Secretary

HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 20 (acn) Koichiro Matsuura, General Secretary of the
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization
(UNESCO) met this Monday with Cuban President Raul Castro in this
capital.

Raul and the distinguished visitor agreed to continue strengthening
cooperation relations between the Caribbean nation and the UN body in
charge of promoting development in sectors to which Cuba gives top
priority at home and also abroad through its solidarity with other
countries.

Matsuura expressed his satisfaction with his visit and sent greetings to
the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro. He also praised the
Cuban Government and people for their permanent support of UNESCO’s work.

The UNESCO official stressed that Cuba is an example of what can and
should be done in favor of education.

Also present in the meeting were the Cuban Foreign Minister, Felipe
Perez Roque; Cuban VP Jose Ramon Fernandez; Cuba’s Permanent
Representative at UNESCO and UNESCO’s Permanent Representative in Cuba.
