Raul Castro to Address the Cuban People Today from Santiago de Cuba

Havana, Cuba, Jan 1 (acn) Cuban President Raul Castro will address the Cuban people during central commemorations today at 6:00 pm for the 50th anniversary of the Triumph of the Cuban Revolution, which will take place at the historic Cespedes Park, in eastern Santiago de Cuba city.

Some 3 000 Santiago citizens, representing all Cubans, will gather in front of Santiago’s old City Hall to commemorate the victorious entrance of the Rebel Army in that city and the speech given by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, in which he proclaimed the definitive independence of the Cuban people.

The famous expression by Fidel, when he said: “At last we have reached Santiago!” will mark the beginning of the celebration, which will count on the performance of outstanding local artists, Granma daily reported.

Also scheduled during the rally is the screening of a documentary film on the history of the Cuban Revolution. The event will be aired on Cuban national and international radio and Television.
