More than 150 thousand Cuban peasants cultivate rice and the number of harvesters grows, like the members' contribution of that sector to the increment of the production of the grain to substitute imports.

Orlando Lugo Fonte, president of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP), highlighted that contribution during a visit to Cienfuegos that reports today the Juventud Rebelde newspaper.

The leader received the symbolic sack of the first 115 thousand quintals of the gathered cereal this year in that territory that plan to arrive to the 330 thousand quintals.

Lugo Fonte carries out a journey for the whole country during which emphasizes in the necessity of the foods dedicated to the population increasing and, especially, the rice.

Recently he said in Ciego de Ávila that is vital to take advantage of the lazy areas, since the country invests more than 200 million dollars every year in the acquisition of that product, while there are lands and enough labor force to diminish those expenditures.

He added that municipal structures and companies will be created in some counties, in order to guarantee, with the maximum of organization, the attention to the harvesters.
