Cuba has over 10,000 Health Technology Graduates

HAVANA, Cuba, March 24 (acn) Cuba has trained over 10,000 health technology graduates since this specialty was created as a university degree course in the 2003-2004 academic year, which has contributed to expanding health services.

The Dean of the Health Technology Faculty of Havana’s Higher Institute of Medical Sciences, Julio Portal MSc., explained that this program of the Revolution, devised by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro in 2002, makes it possible for the massive preparation of students in the country’s 169 municipalities, by way of a program created to universalize university teaching.

The increase in the amount of qualified human resources has made it possible to expand services and to bring them closer to the communities, with a higher level of satisfaction from the population, since they include from primary to tertiary medical attention, added the dean.

At present, there are almost 90,000 youngsters being trained in the four health technology faculties, located in the provinces of Havana, Camaguey, Villa Clara and Santiago de Cuba.

In the remaining provinces, the degree course is studied at the Faculties of Medical Sciences, now in a process of change to become medical universities, pointed out Portal.

Cuba’s achievements in this field are on display since Monday at the International Convention on Technology and Health underway at Havana’s Convention Center until Friday.

The meeting includes 10 events, with themes related to podiatry, optometry, optics, external fixators, nutrition, aesthetics, healthy life styles, and oral health.
