Camagüey contributes around 30% of all the cow milk that wastes away in the country, and more than 25% of the head meat, numbers that say a lot without doubts.

And it is that the Cuban county of more territorial extension, possesses plains that were designed for the cattle raising, for the type of floors, for the sources of water and for the grasses that here sprout with easiness.

But anything falls of the sky, as sent by the gods; a lot of effort, constant dedication to the attention of the flocks, a war without barracks (although not always victorious) against a thorny plant called marabout, characterize the chore of thousands of children of this earth .

Doesn't have the cattleman weekend rest, neither festival or traded days, the luxury cannot be given of remaining in the channel up to the six or seven in the morning on Sundays, neither to be preserved of the rain or the cold when the time is inclement.

In no way: the animals should be picked up at the same hour every day, to milk the cows each day with chronometric accuracy, because their biological clock dictates inviolable rules; it is necessary to loose the bovine ones in the precise moment so that they pasture freely in the herdsman, a time that is not for the rest, but to repair fences, to cut the weeds or to look for forage to feed them in the night.

It without counting the care with which is necessary to treat the calves, to watch over the zeal of the females in reproduction so that they are gestated, to assist the births and some that another imponderable.

If the cowboy makes sick, he should overcome at the uneasiness and both or the three of the dawn to begin the milk; otherwise, to look for a substitute, because the cows cannot remain with the full udders, what would almost surely cause them dysfunctions of graveness.

And still in the case of the substitute, the results are not the same ones, because the animals stress¨ and they hide a part of the milk, they unfriendly become aggressive.

If it rains, it is necessary to be soaked until the bones, if there is cold, the man go to shiver; if the mire arrives to half leg, what setback, but it is necessary to continue.

Raze cattle of Camagüey with prizes of rural organization of Cuba

Again the peasants cattle of Camagüey ran off with with the biggest quantity in prizes that, in that branch, gives the National Association of Small Farmers annually (ANAP), when conquering eight of the 16 established categories.

In the individual order, the people of Camagüey received the prize to the best primer of bulls and that of bovine Livestock, laurel that relapsed in Isidoro Roldán and Héctor Martínez, and as Producing of milk Ricardo Linares was selected , all of the municipality of Camagüey.

Also the recognition to the best equine breeder was for Eulalio Rodríguez, of “Carlos Manuel de Céspedes.”

Luis Morales, director of the cattle entity specialized in the breeding of buffalos, shared the experiences of his community, and it meant the profitable of these encounters in the purpose of fomenting the grasses in the dairies, in accordance with the existent mass and the necessary areas of cane, king grass and leucaen, among other sources of food animal.

To produce 118 million liters of milk and of them sold to the State about 107, it is purpose of the cowboys of Camagüey in the year that newly begins, what says from the tribute to the programs of the Revolution.

That tribute, responds to the birdcall of the Direction of the country to substitute imports, and allows to maintain programs of delivery of the food, at the same time that guide the people of Camagüey for paths to enlarge the distribution.

Such purposes sustain another time the biggest contribution in the cooperative and rural sector that is added what is extracted of the nascent suburban agriculture, without stopping to keep in mind the growing acting of the state entities.

Cattlemen maintain commitment of producing more milk

Camagüey.In spite of the financial limitations for the acquisition of resources, the Cuban cattlemen maintain the commitment of growing from the four to six percent in the production of milk this year.

In the previous one, the country achieved 403 millions of liters of the food marketed by the dairies with entities of the ministries of the Nutritious Industry and of Interior Trade.

Joaquín Lezcano, vice minister of the Agriculture in charge of the cattle sphere, said to the AIN that at the moment that branch goes into - with the rains of the humid station - in the stage of sustained increment of the milk.

The commitments can be completed, assured referring to the purpose of reaching from 420 millions to 427 millions.

In Cuba, the destination of that milk is the sale subsidized for the children until the six years of age and to who acquire it for medical prescription, besides the supply to hospitals, infantile circles and scholarship holders' schools, and smaller quantities for the gastronomy or the elaboration of having derived.

The increase that is expected will allow to the country to reduce the purchase of powdered milk in the international market.

This year it is planed to appeal to that bag to care some 33 thousand tons, more than 10 thousand less than in 2008.

Lezcano pointed out that the cattle raising should center its advance in the advances in sowing more grasses and forages for the flocks and in elevating the natality that at this time is of 54 percent, an insufficient registration.(Lucilo Tejera Díaz )
