The government official pointed out that, with regard to mitigation, Cuba will demand that rich countries should honor the Kyoto Protocol, which established a 5.2 reduction, with respect to1990, of gas emissions causing the greenhouse effect.

Jose Antonio Diaz added that developing nations –which are not historically responsible in terms of global warming- should make good will contributions, like the use of renewable energy sources, which don’t produce pollutants.

The Deputy Minister explained that the objective of the Poznan meeting is not that of setting commitments, but to adjusting the countries’ positions in order to reach an agreement at the Conference of the Parties to be held in Copenhagen Denmark , in 2009.

The over 10,000 experts from more than 190 nations participating in the 12-day Poznan Conference will debate the bases for an accord that will give continuity to the Kyoto Protocol, whose validity expires in 2012.
